Just a few weeks after saying in my journal that dA is not yet perfect, some of my art gets deleted as porn. I do have a theory of why someone will take a lot of time to watch all my drawings to delete just three of them, but it is not relevant now.
Rules
More rules or the "whatever we want to will be porn addendum"
But if there are rules for porn, and those rules are specific ¿Why am I complaining about it?
I understand that rules are necessary, even if we find some of them silly. The site owners have their right to decide whatever rules they want.
That being said, consider this a complaint. What should be an exceptional measure has been taken with my work and other people's too. The rules have been poorly written and interpreted without giving the artwork a second look and ignoring the context.
I think this site is not yet perfect, far from it, but i don't care that much about little bugs, glitches and the mediocre design and layout (Even Facebook and Google Plus are not perfect!). On the other hand, i believe that bad policies and administration are a serious problem.
Rules
More rules or the "whatever we want to will be porn addendum"
But if there are rules for porn, and those rules are specific ¿Why am I complaining about it?
- First of all common Sense. I've posted 284 drawings and paintings up to the date. Most of them using the "Strict Mature Content" filter. That is a lot of time spent on drawing just to post three porn images. Rules are rules, but enforcers should be able to know when someone is posting pornography.
- Second. It seems that porn means genitalia or intercourse. The rules have nothig to do with porn per se. There are a few possible explanations for these rules:
- The author of the rules has a bizarre phobia and is obsessed with genitalia, fluids (even simulated ones) and sexual intercourse.
- The rules include a lot of things that are not porn, but they are intentionally ambiguous so the staff can delete whatever they want using porn as an excuse. The second faq makes me think this might be the right one but i don't discard explanation 1) because it is just fun to think of it.
- The author knows that the rules make no sense whatsoever, but he uses them as a way to keep people that complains happy. People that complain about porn in the name of morality usually have a dirty mind and can be very persistent.
Porn definition: (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornogra…). So please, pretty please, change those rules to something that makes sense. - Third. I understand that sending anonymous notes to the artists and not having to read a reply from them saves time, but admins are either volunteers or paid professionals. Using strict rules not open to interpretation makes any objection impossible, and is unfair with a lot of artwork that people put in dA for free.
In fact, deleting other people's artwork should be exceptional and not the rule. People are what make this site what it is. Getting them upset is not, and will never be, a good policy. - Fourth. Those drawings were not porn, even by the rules. I'll be more specific:
- Giant shemale: Perspective, not erection.
- Window shemale: Size, not erection.
- Ladyboy playing at bed: Grabbing, not "in a manner which is clearly a display of fondling or masturbation". No movement lines, fluids or gestures, just looking to the artist.
- Fifth. A lot of good artwork that wasn't porn either, has been deleted from the site. Some artists complain, many don't ¿Why is it that way?
- Some think that it doesn't matter what they say (They are probably right).
- Precedents like miss dynamite make them think that they can be punished with a ban if they complain. If they are right then there is a serious problem.
I understand that rules are necessary, even if we find some of them silly. The site owners have their right to decide whatever rules they want.

Sorry, no updates
Haven't written anything or posted images for a while. Personal matters are taking all of my time. I hope i can post something new soon :-).
The art theft discussion.
Introduction.
Some time ago i wrote a journal explaining why using the expression “Art theft” was not, in my opinion, the best of ideas, and the word plagiarism should be used instead.
As it turns out, someone from the staff has created a nice presentation explaining why “Art theft can be stealing” trying to settle things out. A very long presentation, full of detail, with further explanations and nice pictures. It explains why (In his opinion) using this expression is right (Although he tries to look impartial). It is a nice collection of opinions we can all agree on like (“Resolve disputes with a conversatio
How does dA work (III) Big Numbers
Warning: This journal entry has some MATH in it. I know some people panic when they hear that word.
Okay. On previous posts on this topic, i've discussed how some simple math can give us predictive power on where any deviation will be placed in a text search. The same tools can be used to find out about the big numbers behind dA (With a certain degree of accuracy).
I've used a combination of educated guesses and statistics to find out the big numbers behind dA (number of deviations, users, etc...). It may seem a crude method, but when tested it gave me some very precise results.
First of all is the number of daily deviations. To get this n
IT IS NOT STEALING!
Allow me to explain what stealing art really is:
Going to a museum and taking the paintings from the walls.
Just an example, but you get the idea.
The other thing has got a name: Plagiarism. Even in the wikipedia article about this word some retarded editor has used the word "To steal". Luckily my old Collins dictionary uses a different wording:
Plagiarism - n - Taking ideas, passages etc. from an author and presenting them unacknowledged as one's own.
Yes. The perfect definition for what many dA users refer to as stealing. Of course plagiarism is wrong, but that is not the point i'm trying to make here. That would be:
IT IS NOT STEALIN

to a degree I think it´s about who get´s reported or not.... I mean, by the strict definition of the rules, I´ve seen a LOT of work in here that could get the boot. What al strikes me as funny is, that written work, can be just about as explicit as it gets, seemingly without repreasals... in my my mind the written word is somewhat more powerful than a simple depiction ?!
But I guess, that those of us who make erotic stuff will just have to edge around the rules, as best we can
